A Whole Lot of Lulu Vintage & Handmade Market 10/12/19

There's nothing like a sunny day in Phoenixville in the fall. A perfect day all around - last year it rained in the morning, which made setup messy.  Apart from being chilly, this time it was fine. We got to break in our new tent, which is almost identical to our old except the legs aren't bent and it is (allegedly) more waterproof. Our only purchase of the day was during setup from the vendor across from us. They had a small metal cabinet which matches the larger one that houses part of our vintage medical equipment collection, so we...

Chicago Steampunk Expo 9/27/19

Having only ever driven through Chicago on the way to Teslacon, this was our first time actually staying there. Well, not actually in the city, but close. From our window on the seventh floor, a big chunk of O'Hare Airport was clearly visible on the left. Although this was a first-time event, it shares some lineage with the International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, which we've attended several times. The hotel was quite large...this was taken from one end of the main lobby, looking towards the entrance. The drive out was long - we did it in one day, arriving late Thursday....

Market of the Macabre 9/7/2019

Our third year at this fantastic event in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Unlike last year, the weather was wonderful - no rain, and not too hot. The turnout was huge - we were very glad we had a helper again. Since we had a double space, Willow got her own tent, for which she was most grateful. A half-dozen Critters found forever homes, including the last chain-mail eared elephant we'll have for a while - we're trying to find a new source for the ears. For the stained glass, in addition to several spiderweb pieces, a Tiffany-style dragonfly, and a couple...

STEAM Fest 2019 8/31/19

Another first-time event, held at the best possible location for a Steampunk show -  SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA. This is the site of the old Bethlehem Steel plant, which is now home to (among other things) the National Museum of Industrial History, the ArtsQuest organization, and the SteelStacks visitor center. Five blast furnaces from the original plant have been preserved, and formed an amazing backdrop for the event. The scope of the event was impressive. There were vendors and performances inside and out (we were inside), plus plenty of food. Willow had her photo taken many times, and the Critters...

Darksome Market 8/3/19

A first-time event for us, although we're no strangers to vending in cemeteries.  Mount Moriah is almost overwhelming in its size, and the efforts of volunteers in beginning the restoration of the 200-acre site is very evident in the areas which are now accessible. The vendor fees from this event are being used towards the ongoing work - which we thoroughly approve of. Let's get the one bad thing out of the way - it was HOT. If nothing else, it completely justified our decision to not vend at Lancaster Pride. We'd decided a while ago to try to cut...
