The Luminous Globe

Another "love at first sight" product for us.

The Luminous Globe is not only a classically sophisticated globe ornament, but also a practical night light with a warm glow. It features an exposed gear mechanism - very Steampunk, of course. While it would make a wonderful desk accessory, because of the light we can also see it being displayed in a kid's room.

As with many of the puzzles kits and models we offer, there are no scissors or any other tool required for assembly as all the parts fit together and lock themselves in without any glue.

Just finished assembling out sample - our "love at first sight" was not misguided. This is a fantastic model.

Assembly took about four hours. The instructions are very good, and they provide an alternate method for mounting the plastic map strips if you are having a hard time. Didn't need it, but it's a nice touch. They provide the necessary wax for lubricating the gears, and as always glue is not required.

There is a gear in the base that rotates the globe in either directions, and a crank wheel on the side that moved a magnifying glass to any position pole-to-pole. The USB-powered light was brighter than I'd expected - it would indeed make a good nigh light.
